Summary:
ECO GAMER seeks to give young people from diverse backgrounds improved skills and accessible ways to map and asses their local communities with sustainability in mind, and to then design, implement and celebrate regenerative local solutions, projects and social enterprises together.
With creativity, interactivity and active engagement at its heart, ECO GAMER uses an innovatively playful approach to activate and connect youth to build community 'where they stand' in ways that also contribute to their sense of purpose and self-esteem. At the wider level, we seeks to provide clear access points and resources for young people and sustainable communities working together to identify and implement solutions for a brighter future.
The project has two main outputs:
1) The Eco GAME – an innovative and experiential approach to teaching social entrepreneurship and community-building through game based learning and educational live roleplaying. The game takes players on a journey of design and implementation of regenerative solutions and enterprises in their local communities, building self-worth and confidence, and providing a safe space in which to practice collaborative leadership and project design.
2) The Eco Impact Assessment - an innovative, accessible and scientifically sound tool for individuals, organisations and local communities map, assess and eventually transform their way of living or operating to become more regenerative. It is based on a holistic and nature-based approach, encapsulated in 30 Ecovillage Design Principles for social, cultural, ecological and economic regeneration, and showcases the impact of local community action on achieving the UN SDGs and the Paris Climate Change Agreements.
Throughout the project, there will be opportunities for young people and local communities to engage, learn and prototype both the game and the assessment – though trainings, playing the game, or working with researchers to refine the assessment.
