I received a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Lisbon in 1998 and I am currently the PI of the subgroup Animal Biodiversity, Evolution and Systematics of the Natural History & Systematics Research Group of CE3C.
I am a resercher and member of the Direction Board of the Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência.
My research focuses on the study of the evolutionary processes responsible for generating and maintaining genetic diversity within and among natural populations, and driving speciation. For many years I have been using freshwater and migratory fishes as main model systems.
