Miguel Rodrigues
PhD StudentMiguel Rodrigues is conducting a PhD in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies by the University of Lisbon starting in 2021 within PFE group of CE3C. He is conducting the project Nature-based solutions (NBS) as climate change adaptation measures in Mediterranean watersheds, under the supervision of Luís Dias (PFE, CE3C) and João Pedro Nunes (Wageningen University and Research).
His PhD project aims to:
1. Evaluate the benefits, limitations, and contributions of (nature-based) solutions for land and water management to strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to mitigate water-related problems at a regional scale;
2. Contribute to a better understanding of how changing climatic variables, and vegetation cover changes impact water availability and identify opportunities to improve water ecosystem services under climate and land-use change scenarios in water-stressed watersheds;
3. Measure the effectiveness of NBS as climate change adaptation measures for land management and restoration and regulation of ecohydrological processes in watersheds subject to increasing pressures on hydrological systems;
4. Demonstrate that the adoption of NBS as climate change adaptation for IWRM will enhance water ecosystem services at the watershed scale to ensure the adequate allocation of water resources to meet human and irrigation demands while guaranteeing environmental flows requirements to sustain freshwater ecosystems and preventing land degradation and desertification
