Welcome to the 9th Frontiers in E3, cE3c's Annual Meeting!
In 2023, we proudly commemorate the 30th anniversary of our Herdade da Ribeira Abaixo as a unique scientific, educational, and advanced training facility and territory. As we reflect on the remarkable events that have occurred throughout these decades—what has transpired, what is currently unfolding, and our aspirations for the near future—it becomes clear why we have chosen the theme for this year's annual meeting. We must integrate the wisdom, lessons, and knowledge acquired from the past, allowing it to be a wellspring of inspiration for our actions and a source of innovation. In the words of Maya Angelou, "you can't really know where you're going until you know where you have been."
Our planet has witnessed countless transformations over its history, shaped by natural processes and the intricate interplay between living organisms and their environment. As we confront urgent ecological challenges and the consequences of environmental changes, it becomes increasingly crucial to draw upon the wisdom of the past to forge a sustainable future.
Throughout this event, we will embark on an intellectual expedition, delving into the complex tapestry of evolutionary processes, ecological interdependencies, and the remarkable resilience of our natural world. Esteemed speakers will share their groundbreaking research, illuminating the profound connection between history and the future through ecological and evolutionary lenses.
At this Annual Meeting, we are going "Back to the Future: Bridging History into Upcoming Scenarios" to gather and share captivating and cutting-edge approaches on a fascinating journey that connects the past, present and future. The National Museum of Natural History and Science, one of our cherished homes, will be a truly ideal venue for this contextually meaningful gathering.
Embrace the synergy of knowledge and personal connection by actively participating with your research and invaluable physical presence. As individuals, we represent the past, present, and future of cE3c, and our Annual Meeting provides a special occasion to strengthen our bonds and recognise our collective value.
See you in September,
The organising committee
