Summary:
The project focuses on waterbird ecology and agricultural ecosystems, investigating the functional equivalence between rice fields and natural wetlands to evaluate the ecological consequences of wetland loss for bird populations. Through an economic cost-benefit analysis of bird services and disservices in rice fields we also aim to raise awareness and offer guidelines to rice growers and conservation stakeholders for a sustainable agriculture.
