I received a Ph.D. in Biosystematics and Ecology and Systematics from the University of Lisbon in 1990. I am a professor of Ecology at the University of Lisbon. My research focuses on wolf ecology and conservation. My research goals are to contribute to Iberian wolf conservation. Being so, the relation between scientific research and environmental education is deeply aimed. Animal ecology, mainly predator prey relationship (wolf/domestic and wild prey); road impact on habitat fragmentation and wolf mortality; wolf population demography and dynamics; molecular genetics as a non-invasive method in mammal ecology studies; GIS analyzes concerning habitat suitability (wolf/deer); practical conservation measures concerning flock protection against predators through the recovery of old protection techniques and research in new ones; the study of the relation between man and wolf; and the development of environmental education programs, are subjects of particular interest.
