I received a Ph.D. degree in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA, USA) in 2005 and I am a member of the Island Biodiversity, Biogeography and Conservation research group (IBBC) of CE3C.
My research interests include evolutionary biology, phylogeography, phylogenetics, molecular systematics, molecular ecology, biodiversity conservation, conservation genetics and genomics, and subterranean biology. I have also been working on science communication, mainly concerning natural heritage and biodiversity conservation, and exploring non-conventional approaches.
My current research contract aims to develop innovative and inclusive ways of experiencing biodiversity in the Azores while, contributing to the long term preservation of native biota.
