Laurine Parmentier is conducting a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinar Management of Landscape by the University of Açores starting in December 2024 within the IBBC. She is conducting the project Anthropogenic threats in the nesting habitat of Cory’s shearwater (Calonectris borealis, Scopoli, 1769) in the central group of islands in the Azoreanarchipelago, under the supervision of Paulo A. V. Borges (CE3C—Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes/Azorean Biodiversity Group, CHANGE—Global Change and Sustainability Institute), Verónica Neves (Instituto de Investigação em Ciências do Mar – OKEANOS) and Guilherme Oyarzabal (CE3C—Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes/Azorean Biodiversity Group, CHANGE—Global Change and Sustainability Institute).

The main goals of the project are:
Compile a coherent systematic review of the threats for the entire distribution area of Cory’s shearwater.
Characterize the anthropogenic threats namely: i) the impact of invasive fauna and habitat characteristics on the breeding success, ii) the nesting habitat reduction and iii) the impact of the rise of air temperature.
Predict the Cory’s shearwater’s nest distribution in the central group of the Azores under climate change scenarios using the habitat suitability model and including the local specific climate change-related threats.
