I received a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Burgos (Spain) in 2018 and I am currently member of the research group Natural History & Systematics (NHS) of CE3C.

My research has been focusing on post-natal development of biological organism and how environmental factors affect growth and development of its anatomical structures using diverse technical and theoretical backgrounds (morphometric, anatomy, genetics, behavior and ecology). I have been involved in digitization of zoological collections, zoological collection curation, and scientific dissemination. I have a long experience with 2D/ 3D geometric morphometric methods and a special expertise on SEM and segmentation and reconstruction of CT and micro-CT images.

Presently, I am a FCT research fellow at the National Museum of Natural History and Science, University of Lisbon, under the research project NanoCell2SEC (LISBOA-01-0145-FEDER-030529 – PTDC/CTM-REF/30529/2017). My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: i) the use of the iridescent color of insects as a bio-inspiration for the production of original and ecologically correct nanostructured objects with optical characteristics similar to those presented by insects, ii) to use and to promote the natural history collections as biodiversity libraries and a key platform for public engagement on social and scientific questions and iii) promote social inclusion through science citizenship.
