I completed my undergraduate degree in Biology at the Universities of Luanda and Lisbon, and I earned my MSc and PhD in Ecology at the University of Kansas. As a full professor in the Department of Animal Biology at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, I teach courses focused on various areas of ecology and conservation and supervise graduate student training in these fields. Currently, I coordinate the Environment branch of the Degree in Biology and lead the Tropical and Mediterranean Biodiversity research group at CE3C.
I am personally and professionally highly committed to the preservation of biological diversity. Thus, the overall aim of my research is to contribute to the knowledge required for science-based conservation and management at global, ecosystem, and species levels. Most of my diverse current research interests are centered on Conservation Ecology in tropical and Mediterranean ecosystems. In general, my research involves the study of bats and birds, which I find both intrinsically fascinating and valuable as models for studying many ecological issues.
