PhD StudentMargarida Augusto is conducting a Ph.D. in PhD in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies by the University of Lisbon starting in 2019. She is conducting the project "Humans-nature relations: the case of Bats Ecosystems Services in a portuguese forest", under the supervision of Professor Hugo Rebelo from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, Professor Olivia Bina from the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon and Professor Danilo Russo from the University of Naples Federico II.
Margarida Ph.D. project aims are:
1. Understanding how bat diversity promotes ecosystem services, particularly through predation of the pine processionary moth;
2. Identifying landscape management strategies to enhance suppression of the pine processionary moth, focusing on forests, riparian habitats, and edges;
3. Examining the impact of climate change on bat-related ecosystem services in Serra da Estrela;
4. Assessing how policy changes can support Nature-Based Solutions in the region;
5. Evaluating how forest management recommendations can aid in the post-fire revitalization of Serra da Estrela Natural Park.
