My research focuses on the effects of human activities on biodiversity in the endemic-rich islands of São Tomé and Príncipe (central Africa), aiming to: i) collect data on the distribution of species, ecosystems and human activities; ii) understand the direct and indirect impacts of human activities on biodiversity; iii) use São Tomé and Príncipe as a model system to understand the relationship between human activities and biodiversity in the context of global change.
My work has a strong applied component, linked to biodiversity conservation, so I have strong links to a multitude of researchers and institutions, notably to the national office of BirdLife International and to the Gulf of Guinea Biodiversity Centre.
