I am a conservation ecologist specializing in institutional and science communication, scientific literacy, content creation and event production. My work thrives on a transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary dialogue, attentive to fields like environmental education, environmental journalism, and culture, using creativity as both a disruptive force and a lever for change.
Among my recent noteworthy projects are Portugal's first science festival, the Tropical Summit, first of its kind dedicated to sustainable development in tropical regions, and the Environmental Journalism Week, the country’s only international forum for discussion and training on this critical topic. I’ve also organized events of various scales, pedagogical programmes, exhibitions, outreach resources and more.
I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. focused on human-wildlife interactions and conservation marketing, through a collaboration between CE3C-University of Lisbon, University of Oxford and the environmental NGOs Rewilding Portugal and Liga para a Protecção da Natureza.
Master in Conservation Biology by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (primate population and conservation genetics), and postgraduate in Ecology and Environmental Management on the same institution. During this time, I also developed skills in event production and science communication that led me to win the audience award at the FameLab Portugal 2017 final, and to be invited to host the final of FameLab Portugal 10-year commemorative edition.
I worked at the Portuguese Ecological Society (SPECO) under supervision of Maria Amélia Martins-Loução, where I was responsible for the institutional communication and the LTER network communication and outreach (2017-2019). In 2018, I became part of the team that brought the international festival Pint of Science to Portugal, representing the initiative as national Vice-President and Lisbon edition coordinator for two years (2018-2019). In 2020, I co-founded Sencência, a start-up focused on the triad science-culture-education, being its Scientific Director (CSO) until 2022, and FIC.A - International Science Festival, the first and only portuguese-made science festival.
I currently represent the Tropical College of the University of Lisbon (CTROP), as communication manager (2020-); SPECO, as member of the national board (2020-), where I coordinate the Network for Communication and Dissemination of Ecology; Liga para a Protecção da Natureza (LPN), as member of national board (2019-), the oldest environmental NGO in the Iberian Peninsula, where I supervise the communication, education and training departments.
In july 2022, together with Maria Amélia Martins-Loução, we edited the book Reaching everywhere: Ecology in the 21st Century ("Um Pouco por Toda a Parte: a Ecologia no Século XXI").
