PhD StudentArtemisa Martins, Ph.D. student in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, under the supervision of Professor Maria Cristina Duarte.
The objectives of my PhD project are:
Characterization and evaluation of the socio-economic importance of forest products non-wood used by women for various purposes, including the manufacture of mats, basketry and personal and household items;
Identification and assessment of the importance of ecosystem services obtained from the mangroves and, in particular, the harvesting of different species of shellfish for safety food and for the family economy;
characterization of the "sacred bushes of women" and marine areas with traditional protection in the Bijagós archipelago and study of the contribution of these sites, with differentiated rules and restrictions of use, for the conservation of resources Natural.
