ResearcherI received a Ph.D. in Veterinary Sciences from the University of Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária/Universidade de Lisboa in 2003 and I am currently working in the HuEL Group of CE3C. I am a Researcher of Parasitology at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, University of Lisbon. My research focuses on Ixodidae; Tick-borne pathogens; tick-vertebrate hosts Interactions; and Zoonotic diseases.
For many years I have been involved in the interaction of parasites and their hosts (intermediate and definitive) in island and continental environments using morphological and molecular methodologies. Working collaborations with Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) and Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical (IHMT). My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: Recognize the microbiome of sympatric ticks; understand how microbiome interfere in pathogen transmission; map ticks and their microbiome as a tool for control disease.
