I received a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Lisbon in 2003 and I am currently leading the Environmental Quality and Human Health (HuEL) of CESAM / CE3C. I am a professor of Vectors and Pathogenic Agents, Integrated Pest Management, and Forensic Biology at FCUL. My research focuses on Integrated Pest Management and Forensic Entomology. For many years I have been involved in biological pest control research as well as the ecology of sarcosaprofagous Diptera.
My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: record the predators and parasitoids of key pests of vineyards, olive groves, prunoids and vectors of Xylella fastidiosa and understanding the factors that affect their distribution; evaluate pollinator communities (wild bees) associated with different land uses, as bioindicators of ecological status, to promote conservation practices in agroecosystems and urban areas; study the bioecology of the most relevant primary colonizing dipteran species in determining the Post-Mortem Interval.
