Maria Inês Silva is conducting a Ph.D. in Biology and Ecology of Global Changes by the University of Lisbon starting in 2025 within the CoBiG2 of CE3C. She is conducting the project "Water has memory: eDNA as a new tool to assess purse-seine fisheries discards", under the supervision of Dr. Ana Rita Vieira (MARE), Prof. Octávio Paulo (CE3C) and Prof. Stefano Mariani (Liverpool John Moores University). Inês's project aims are: to validate eDNA-based methodologies and optimise the necessary protocols to create a discards species identification system, for purse-seine fisheries, using onboard water samples.
