Cristina Villegas
ResearcherI received a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the Complutense University of Madrid in 2020, and I am currently working in the Ecological Evolutionary Developmental Biology (Eco-Evo-Devo) Research Group in CE3C. I am a philosopher of biology working on the nature of causal explanations in evolutionary research, with a special focus on studies of the generation of phenotypic variation.
Previously, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research (KLI, Austria) and an integrated member of the Centre for Philosophy of Science at the University of Lisbon (CFCUL). I am a member of the International Society for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology (ISHPSSB) and the Iberian Association for Philosophy of Biology (AIFIBI), as well as a board member of the Spanish Society of Logic, Methodology, and Philosophy of Science (SLMFCE) since 2024. My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: the philosophical study of probabilistic models of evolution; the theoretical underpinnings of applying a developmental perspective to evolutionary studies; and the conceptual commitments associated to the distinct hypotheses for the evolution of complex genotype-phenotype properties.
