João Moreno is conducting a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology by the University of Lisbon starting in 2020 within the Evolutionary Genomics and Bioinformatics group of CE3C. He is conducting the project “Uncovering the molecular basis of adaptation in species distributed along a climatic gradient: linking genomes and proteins to environment”, under the supervision of Vitor Sousa from the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes (CE3C) and Romana Santos from Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (MARE).
João Moreno's Ph.D. project aims are: (1) study the effect of temperature and pH on the proteome and phosphoproteome of freshwater fish from contrasting environments; (2) quantify the effect of phenotypic plasticity in gene and protein expression in fish-derived cell cultures exposed to different controlled environments in the laboratory and (3) detect genes under positive selection responsible for adaptation to different environments.
