Daniel Silva obtained a BSc in Biology in 2020 from Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa and a MSc in Applied Microbiology in 2023 also from Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa. His masters' degree dissertation project titled "Resistome and mobilome of Portuguese aquacultures: metagenomic characterization" was developed at INIAV - National Institute for Agrarian and Veterinary Research and CE3C - Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Change.
This project had the goal of defining the profile of antimicrobial resistance genes and mobile genetic elements and to study the potential risk of resistance genes spreading in aquaculture farms from estuarine environments in Portugal. Currently he integrates the Genomics and Evolutionary Ecology of Microorganisms group as a volunteer, under the supervision of Teresa Nogueira (INIAV, CE3C) and Francisco Dionísio (CE3C).
