My PhD research project (/University of Lisbon/Harvard University) was on the molecular evolution of a novel gene family in Drosophila melanogaster. I received a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Lisbon in 2007. From 2008 to 2014 I was a post-doctoral fellow at CE3C in the Evolutionary Ecology group. My research focused on Genome Evolution, in particular the evolution of fast evolving genes, such as genes involved in reproduction, host-parasite interaction and antibiotic resistance genes.
Currently, I am a professor at the School of Education in the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, EE-IPS, researcher in iNOVA Media Lab, and an external collaborator in the Evolutionary Ecology Research Group of cE3c.
I am passionate about communicating science. I have organized science communication initiatives in different formats and for different audiences, many of these within the framework of the Outreach and Education Group of the Portuguese Evolutionary Biology Association.
