André is mainly interested in interdisciplinary approaches for biodiversity conservation under different socio-economic pathways.
His expertise lies in spatial ecology, macroecology, and conservation biology, with a foundational focus on meta-population theory. More recently, his work has centred on biodiversity resilience through the lens of complex system theory. Practically, he has extensively studied the impacts of land-use change on biodiversity. His current research endeavours also involve developing models that account for the reciprocal influence between land-use and biodiversity.
He has applied, or collaborated on applying, species distribution models and agent-based simulations to examine biodiversity change (mammals, insects, and plants) across Europe, Asia, and South America.
André is a postdoctoral researcher at the Stockholm Resilience Centre, contributing to the Mistra Finance to Revive Biodiversity (FinBio) project. His research focuses on two primary areas. First, he is developing a modelling framework to assess the impact of corporate activities on local species resilience. Second, he is investigating how global economic initiatives that invest in nature through ecosystem services affect species resilience.
André is also a member of the Earth Resilience and Sustainability Initiative, a joint undertaking by the Stockholm Resilience Centre, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Princeton University and collaborates with the group of Wildlife Genetics (WildGen) and Conservation Ecology & Society (CES) at CE3C.
