I have focused my scientific activity in the study of spatial patterns of freshwater fish communities at different scales and their relationship to natural and anthropogenic environmental variables. Additionally, I have been collaborating with other researchers in studying various ecological aspects of fish native species (e.g., feeding ecology, migrations). These collaborations have included several projects with national and international funding.

My current research is driven by three main objectives: i) Modelling fish distributions and fish functional traits in streams, and evaluating the effects of multiple anthropogenic and 'natural' variables; ii) Developing tools that allow the evaluation of the biological quality of lotic systems (sensu Water Framework Directive); ii) Investigating fish-forestry interactions in certified forestry plantations in Iberia.
