Maria do Carmo Barreto, BSc in Biology, MSc in Biotechnology (Biochemical Engineering), PhD in Biochemistry, is associated professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of the Azores.
Since 2015, she has been a researcher at GBA/CE3C - Center for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Change / Azorean Biodiversity Group. For many years she has been involved in studying the biological activities of Natural Products of terrestrial and marine organisms. In this context, she has been coordinator or team member of projects which aim to emphasize the importance of biodiversity in the discovery of novel added-value compounds. Her main research interests are the biological activities of terrestrial and marine natural products, in the search of pharmacological, cosmeceutical and biotechnological applications.
