I received a PhD in Biology from the University of Lisbon in 2022, and I am currently a professor of Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine and Food Supplements at the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, in Pharmacy degree. I am also a collaborator in the Plant Biotechnology reseach group of CE3C, at the Faculty of Sciences. My research focuses on Phytochemical Analysis of Plant-based and Sustainable Products, Plant Biotechnology and Biological activity of Phytocompounds.
I have been involved in the phytochemistry study of medicinal and aromatic plants and food products, namely honey, including the extraction of bioactive compounds and the evaluation of the corresponding biological activity. My current and future research is driven by the following topics: sustainable valorisation of agroforestry residues industry by-products, recovery of biological active components from food by-products, and evaluation of bioactive compounds with potential therapeutic application in the pharmaceutical industry.
