Ana Sofia Borges Lima
PhD StudentAna Sofia Borges Lima is conducting a Ph.D. in Biology by the University of Lisbon starting in 2013 within the Plant Biotechnology group of CE3C. He/She is conducting the project "A sustainable control of Varroa destructor using semiochemicals involved in mite attraction and phytochemicals from Portuguese aromatic flora", under the supervision of Prof. Doctor Ana Cristina Figueiredo from Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, and Prof. Doctor Miguel Vilas-Boas from School of Agriculture, Polytechnic Institute of Bragança.
Ph.D. project aims are: - acquisition knowledge on Varroa destructor - Apis mellifera attraction mechanisms ; evaluation of phytochemicals from Portuguese aromatic flora with acaricidal activity; contribution to a chemoecological approach that exploits the knowledge of Varroa life cycle and host-distinguish cues, allowing the future development of phytochemicals traps for Varroa control.
