I received a Ph.D. in Ecophysiology from the University of Lisbon in 2007 and I am currently working in the Plant Soil Ecology research group of CE3C. My research focuses on symbiosis, with a focus on mycorrhizal associations, their regulation, cost-benefit balances and phylosophical implications, and N and C metabolisms.
For many years I have been involved in mycorrhizal research, studying both ecto- and arbuscular mycorrhiza.
My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: Understand how are nutrient exchanges in mycorrhizal symbioses regulated; Question and rethink the frameworks applied to the functioning of mycorrhizal symbioses; Explore the phylosophical and social implications of symbiosis as the core of living systems.
