I received a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Antwerp (Belgium) in 2015 and I am currently working in the Plant-Soil Ecology Group of CE3C. My research focuses on 1) Earth dynamics and soil biogeochemical processes; 2) Link between soil nutrient cycles and soil and water quality; 3) Human impact on the soil processes and their local/global implications.
During my PhD I have focused on the Silicon (Si) biogeochemical soil cycle and its major impacts on the terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. From 2015-2017 I have also been part of a H2020 project, in the University of Évora (Portugal) related to soil quality assessment.
I am also a member of the International Society for Silicon in Agriculture and Related Disciplines.
My current research relates to Sustainable Agriculture and especially the impact that the Si terrestrial cycle may have in Agriculture. It is driven by three overarching objectives: 1) Identify and quantify the influence of Si in the main croplands of Alentejo under the main local limitations; 2) Identify and develop new and better Agricultural Management Practices in the croplands that favour the beneficial Si-interactions in the soil-plant systems of the croplands under the stress conditions; 3) Test and develop new Si-fertilizers that can actively be incorporated in soil and induce the Si-beneficial influences under the local stresses.
