Maria Espírito Santo is conducting a Ph.D. in Biology by the University of Lisbon starting in 2023 within the Ecology of Environmental Change - eChanges. She is conducting the project "Adapting pastures to climate change – integrating biodiversity and ecosystem services", under the supervision of Alice Nunes (CE3C), Cistina Branquinho (CE3C) and Helena Serrano (CE3C).
The project aims are:
- To evaluate long-term impact of no-tillage pastures on soil functionality along a climatic gradient.
- To evaluate the diversity, abundance, and attributes of pasture plants most adapted to climate change scenarios in a spatial/climatic gradient.
- To monitor ecosystem services and their trade-offs: assessing the delivery of regulating, provisioning and cultural ecosystem services, in different measures of adaptation to climate change scenarios.
- To develop a statistical model of climate change adaptation measures for each of the identified vulnerabilities.
