I received a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Lisbon in 2004 and I am currently working in the Conservation in Ecology and Society of CE3C. I am a professor of Ecology and Conservation at the University of Lisbon. My research focuses on conservation ecology of vertebrates, agroecosystems role in conservation and wildlife adaptations to changing environments. For many years I have been involved in wildlife ecology, management and conservation research using as model system mammals, and especially mammalian carnivores. My current research is driven by three overarching objectives: 1) understand mammalian ecological networks dynamics in a global change context; 2) unravel the ecological mechanisms and processes behind species resilient to agroecosystems; 3) understand how we can maximize biodiversity and promote a functional ecological network in agroecosystems, while allowing for an economically sustainable production.
