Ricardo Pires da Costa is conducting a Ph.D. in Macroecology by the University of Azores starting in 2021 within the IBBC of CE3C. He is conducting the project Spider vertical stratification in addressing colonization and ecology of islands communities in Macaronesia forests, under the supervision of Paulo Borges (CE3C - Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes / Azorean biodiversity Group & CHANGE - Global Change and Sustainability Institute, School of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, University of the Azores, Rua Capitão João d´Ávila, Pico da Urze, 9700-042, Angra do Heroísmo, Portugal), François Rigal (Institut Des Sciences Analytiques et de Physico Chimie pour L’environnement et les Materiaux UMR5254, Comité National de la Recherche Scientifique - University de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, Pau, France) and Pedro Cardoso (CE3C- Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes, CHANGE – Global Change and Sustainability Institute, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal).
Spider vertical stratification in addressing colonization and ecology of Macaronesia islands communities Ph.D. project aims are:
1. Access the vertical habitat of mainland relatives of island spiders and comparison with those of island species.
2. What is the effect of scale and environmental factors in the diversity components of island spider communities.
3. How do introduced species differ in their vertical habitat compared to the indigenous communities.
