Bianca Gomes is conducting a Ph.D. in Sustainability Science by the University of Lisbon starting in 2022 within the Biological Resilience RG of CE3C. She is conducting the project "The impact of animals bedding material on the sustainability of poultry industry through a One Health perspective”, under the supervision of Ricardo Dias (CE3C), Celeste Simões (FMH) and Carla Viegas (ESTeSL) the project aims are: To characterize the risk to the health of workers (fungal infection), the influence on animals productivity and indirectly the environmental impact of microbiological exposure in poultry pavilions and its possible relationship with the type of material used in animals bedding.
Bianca has participated in several international projects in the area of occupational exposure to microorganisms, microbial contamination, air quality, food safety, and resistant mycobiota. Has experience with a broad range of sampling methods in various settings and has developed expertise in diverse analysis for microbial characterization. Currently, her research focuses on describing the poultry environment and occupational exposure from a One Health perspective.
