I received a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Lisbon in 2016 and I am currently working in the Plant Functional Ecology - PFE group of CE3C. I am a Assistant Professor (invited) of Plant Diversity/Botany at the University of Lisbon. My research focuses on plant community ecology, with particular interest in Mediterranean semiarid environments.
For many years I have been involved in plant community dynamic research using dune xerophytic shurb communities and oak wood-pastures (montado/dehesa) as model systems. My current research is driven by the following objectives: the creation of sustainable management strategies for forestry systems (e.g., Eucalyptus plantations), semi-natural habitats (oak wood pastures: montados/dehesas), and photovoltaic installations. Of particular interest to me is the preservation of small natural features (e.g., rocky outcrops or shrub patches) as an affordable way to support ecosystem services and increase biodiversity. Additionally, I am passionate about educating the public about science and biodiversity conservation so I studying the potential of using citizen science, social networks, and mobile apps to engage the public in biodiversity conservation, especially for plants.
